The A. B. Smith Chemical Company was founded on June 18, 1891 by Abel B. Smith in Buffalo, New York. Its industry was wood alcohol, charcoal and acetate and its headquarters remained in Buffalo, New York with its plant in Red House, New York (est. 1900). The company shut down operations in mid-1926.
