Abex-corporation

The American Brake Shoe & Foundry Company was founded in February 1901 by William W. Snow and Otis H. Cutler in Mahwah, New York. Its industry was asbestos (later non-asbestos) and brake products and its headquarters was in Rochester, New York (later Portsmouth, Virginia). It was acquired by Illinois Central Industries in 1968. It merged with the Pneumo Corporation in 1978. It went bankrupt in 2001 but reemerged in 2004 as Pneumo Abex, LLC based out of New Camden, New Jersey and is now owned by PCT International Holdings, Inc. Since the 1990s, the company has been under pressure for its use of asbestos in its products.
