
The American Fork & Hoe Company was founded on September 8, 1902 as a consolidation between Batcheller & Sons, L. Bolles Hoe & Tool Company, Utica Tool Company, Geneva Tool Company, Withington & Cooley Manufacturing Company, Iowa Farming Tool Company, Sheble & Klemm, Meyers Irvien Company and eight other hoe companies. Its industry was tools and hardware and its headquarters were in Cleveland, Ohio (1902-1981) and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1981-1999).
In 1967 the company was acquired by the Alleghany-Ludlum Steel Company. The company split into two divisions in 1981: True Temper Sports, Inc. and True Temper Hardware. In 1990, the hardware company was acquired by the Huffy Corporation. It merged with the Ames Company in 1999, forming Ames True Temper, Inc.
