The American Pad & Textile Company was founded in 1881 by Edward L. McClain in Greenfield, Ohio. Its industry was horse collar pads and its place of operation remained in Greenfield, Ohio. The company shut down and its property were sold at auction in October 1945. Control of the firm was taken over by the Portable Products Company, of Pittsburgh, and the stock was transferred to the Great Western Fuse Company in April 1948.
