The American Vulcanized Fibre Company was founded on December 4, 1901 during a merger and consolidation of the Kartavert Manufacturing Company, American Hard Fibre Company, Vulcanized Fibre Company, and Laminar Fibre Company. Its industry was vulcanized fibre and its headquarters were in Wilmington, Delaware (1901-1965) and Yorklyn, Delaware (1965-2009). On January 1, 1923, the firm consolidated with the National Fiber & Insulation Company and Keystone Fiber Company. The company declared bankruptcy in 1993, and again in 2009, and was dissolved.
