The Anaconda Copper Mining Company was founded in 1881 (incorporated January 19, 1891) by Marcus Daly and a group of California investors in Butte, Montana. Its industry was mining and its headquarters remained in Butte, Montana with additional offices in Denver, Colorado. It was owned by the Amalgamated Copper Company from 1899 until 1915. In 1977, the company was purchased by the Atlantic Richfield Corporation. Production ceased by 1980 and mining was halted completely in 1983.
