The Bayer-Semesan Company was founded on February 26, 1928 by J. P. Laffey, W. F. Harrington and H. G. Hess in New York City, New York, organized jointly by Du Pont and the Winthrop Chemical Company. It was a successor to the Seed Disinfectant divisions of Du Pont and the Bayer Company. Its industry was seed disinfectants and its headquarters were in New York City, New York (1928-1932) and Wilmington, Delaware (1932-1946). In 1946 it was consolidated into Du Pont's Grasselli Chemical division.
