Bendix Home Appliances, Inc. was founded in 1936 by Don O. Scott and Judson S. Sayre in South Bend, Indiana. Until 1940, the company was 25% owned by the Bendix Aviation Corporation. Its industry was laundry machines and its headquarters were in South Bend, Indiana (1936-1950) and Cincinnati, Ohio (1950-1956).
It was acquired by the Avco Manufacturing Corporation in 1950. In 1956, the division was sold to the Philco Corporation, who continued to manufacture laundry machines under the Philco-Bendix name in its Nashville plant. Philco was acquired by the Ford Motor Company in 1963, and manufacturing of laundry machines ended by December.
