The Bon Ami Company was founded in 1892 by William H. Childs and his nephew William H. H. Childs in New York City, New York after purchasing the exclusive rights to Bon Ami soap from the Robertson Soap Company. Its industry is cleaning products and its headquarters were in New York City, New York and Kansas City, Missouri (1991-present).
In 1955, the company was acquired by the United Dye & Chemical Company. It was later bought by Tel-A-Sign, Inc. in 1962 and a year later by Lestoil Products, Inc. In 1971 it was purchased by the Faultless Starch Company and merged into one firm.
