
The Burroughs Adding Machine Company was founded on January 20, 1886 by William S. Burroughs, Thomas Metcalfe, Richard M. Scruggs, and William R. Pye in St. Louis, Missouri. Its industry was hardware and its headquarters was in Detroit, Michigan. In 1986, it merged with the Sperry Corporation to form the Unisys Corporation. In 2010, the Unisys Payment Systems Division was spun off by Marlin Equity Partners and the Burroughs name was reborn.
