The Cheek-Neal Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by Joel O. Cheek and John W. Neal in Nashville, Tennessee. Its industry was coffee and its place of operation remained in Nashville, Tennessee. It was acquired by the Postum Cereal Company in 1928. Postum was renamed General Foods the following year and Cheek-Neal's "Maxwell House" coffee brand has been marketed ever since. It is currently a brand of Kraft Foods.
