Christie, Brown & Company, Ltd. was founded in 1853 (incorporated June 1, 1899) by William M. Christie and George Maver in Toronto, Ontario, succeeding the bakery of Mathers & Brown (co-partnership between Alexander Mathers and Alexander Brown). Its industry was biscuits and cakes and its headquarters remained in Toronto, Ontario. It was acquired by the National Biscuit Company in July 1928 and was shut down as a company in 1982, however Nabisco still sells products under the "Christie" trademark.
