The Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company, abbreviated as Delco, was founded on July 22, 1909 by Charles F. Kettering and Edward A. Deeds in Dayton, Ohio. In 1916, the company was consolidated into the newly-formed United Motors Corporation. United Motors was sold to the General Motors Company in 1918. In 1926, the division was merged with GM's Remy Electric Company.
