The Dexter Company was founded in 1894 by William H. George, R. D. Hunt and L. V. Gaines in Dexter, Iowa. Its industry is commercial laundry equipment and its headquarters were in Dexter, Iowa (1894-1912) and Fairfield, Iowa (1912-present). In 1954, the company was acquired by the Philco Corporation. It became privately-owned again in 1987. In 2006, the company acquired the Apache Stainless Equipment Corporation and Dexter Apache Holdings, Inc. was formed. It operates four main subsidiaries: Dexter Laundry, Inc. and Dexter Foundry, Inc. in Fairfield, Iowa, Dexter Financial Services, Inc. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Apache Stainless in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.
