The Dodge Manufacturing Company was founded in June 1878 (incorporated April 3, 1880) by Wallace H. Dodge in Mishawaka, Indiana. Its industry was power transmission machinery and its headquarters were in Mishawaka, Indiana (1878-1982), Greenville, South Carolina (1982-2000) and Indianapolis, Indiana (2000-2008).
The firm was merged with the Reliance Electric Company on August 22, 1967. In 1982, most of Dodge's operations were moved to plants in Columbus, Indiana, Tennessee and the Carolinas. In 1995, Reliance and Dodge were purchased by the Rockwell International Corporation. It was purchased by the Atchison Casting Corporation in 2000. The Mishawaka plant was shut down in 2006 and the division dissolved in 2008. Its trademarks were acquired by the Baldor Electric Company.
