The Eagle-Picher Lead Company was founded in 1842 by brothers Edgar and Stephen J. Conkling in Cincinnati, Ohio. Its industry was lead and zinc products and its headquarters were in Cincinnati, Ohio (1842-1916), Chicago, Illinois (1916-1928), Cincinnati, Ohio (1928-2002) and Phoenix, Arizona (2002-2006).
It was acquired by the Picher Lead Company in 1905 and merged with the firm in 1916. It filed for bankruptcy protection in January 1991 due to asbestos-related claims and reorganized in November 1996. Ownership was transferred to the Eagle-Picher Industries Personal Injury Settlement Trust for victims of asbestos and lead poisoning. In 1998, the trust sold the operating businesses to Granaria Holdings B.V. and its Cincinnati Industrial Machinery division was sold to the Armor Group, Inc. in 2000. The company filed for bankruptcy protection a second time in April 2005 and did not fully exit reorganization until July 2009.
The EaglePicher Corporation was established on August 1, 2006 to acquire all the assets of EaglePicher, Inc. and its U.S. subsidiaries from EaglePicher Holdings, Inc., which had been formed in 1997. It came under ownership of Angelo, Gordon & Company and Tennenbaum Capital Partners LLC in 2009. In February 2010, EaglePicher Corp. sold its EaglePicher Technologies, LLC and EaglePicher Medical Power units to the OM Group, Inc., subsequently changing its name to EP Management Corporation. It was acquired by Golden Gate Capital LP in 2011.
