The Elite Manufacturing Company was founded in 1906 by Edwin L. Kilhefner, John H. Burkholder and Preston E. Countryman in Ashland, Ohio. Its industry was jacks, concrete mixers and scaffold brackets and its headquarters remained in Ashland, Ohio. The company was merged with the J. H. Shannon Company and two other large firms to form the Automatic Products Corporation in 1929. In 1934, the automobile jack business was reorganized as the Reliance Jack Company, owned jointly by the Dayton Malleable Iron Company and Automatic Products.
