The Fafnir Bearing Company was founded on March 8, 1911 by Howard S. Hart in New Britain, Connecticut. Its industry is ball bearings and its headquarters remained in New Britain, Connecticut. In 1968 it was acquired by Textron, Inc., who later sold it to the Torrington Company in 1985. In 1988 the New Britain plant was shut down and manufacturing was moved to Newington, Connecticut. That plant continued until 1993 when it was sold. Torrington and its Fafnir operations were purchased by the Timken Company in 1998. Timken continues to market the "Fafnir" ball bearing brand.
