Electric Storage Battery Company

The Electric Storage Battery Company was founded on June 5, 1888 by William W. Gibbs in Gloucester City, New Jersey. Its industry is batteries and its headquarters were in Gloucester City, New Jersey (1888-1894), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1894-1987), Reading, Pennsylvania (1987-2001), Princeton, New Jersey (2001-2004) and Milton, Georgia (2004-present). In 1957, the Ray-O-Vac Company was merged into the company. In 1974, ESB was acquired by the International Nickel Company of Canada where it was operated as a subsidiary of Inco Electroenergy Corporation until Inco dropped out of the battery business in 1981.
