The J. I. Case Company was founded in 1842 by Jerome I. Case in Racine, Wisconsin. Its industry was agricultural and construction machinery and its headquarters remained in Racine, Wisconsin. The Kern County Land Company acquired Case in 1964 and was later sold to Tenneco, Inc. in 1970. In 1985, Case and the agricultural division of the International Harvester Company merged to create Case IH. In 1999, the remaining Case Corporation merged with New Holland N.V. to create CNH Global.
