The Outboard Marine & Manufacturing Corporation was founded in June 1910 by Ole Evinrude and Chris J. Meyer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Its industry was boats and boat motors and its headquarters were in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (1910-1929) and Waukegan, Illinois (1929-2000).
In 1928, the company was acquired by the Briggs & Stratton Corporation and merged with the Lockwood-Ash Motor Company and Elto Outboard Motor Company in 1929, forming the Outboard Motor Corporation. The Evinrude Motors Division operated under this corporation. In 1936, the company merged with the Johnson Motor Company. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2000 and the "Johnson" and "Evinrude" brands were sold to Bombardier Recreational Products, Inc. and Genmar Holdings, Inc.
