Sargent & Company was founded in 1858 (incorporated October 1864) by brothers Joseph B., George, and Edward Sargent following the consolidation of J. B. Sargent & Company, Sargent & Bro., and Peck & Walter Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut. Its industry is locks and hardware and its headquarters were in Hartford, Connecticut (1858-1863) and New Haven, Connecticut (1863-present). It was owned by the Walter Kidde Company from 1967 to 1996 until its acquisition by Assa Abloy AB.
