The Stewart-Warner Corporation was founded on April 13, 1905 by John K. Stewart, Charles S. Burton, Homer L. Kraft and Edward T. Wray in Chicago, Illinois. Its industry is vehicle instruments and its headquarters were in Chicago, Illinois (1905-1998) and Lancaster, Pennsylvania (1998-present). In 1912, the company was merged with the Warner Instrument Company. It was acquired by the British Tire & Rubber Company in 1987, and later spun off as the Stewart Warner Instruments Corporation. In 1998, the company was acquired by the Datcon Instrument Company and again by the Actuant Corporation in 2007.
