Its industry was tires and its headquarters were in Akron, Ohio (1915-1984), Fairlawn, Ohio (1984-1987), Charlotte, North Carolina (1987-present). In 1984, the company reorganized as General Tire, Inc. with GenCorp, Inc. as a holding company. GenCorp sold General Tire to Continental AG in 1987.
