The General Tire & Rubber Company was founded on September 29, 1915 by William F. O'Neil and Winfred E. Fouse in Akron, Ohio. Its industry was tires and its headquarters were in Akron, Ohio (1915-1984), Fairlawn, Ohio (1984-1987), Charlotte, North Carolina (1987-present). In 1984, the company reorganized as General Tire, Inc. with GenCorp, Inc. as a holding company. GenCorp sold General Tire to Continental AG in 1987.
