The Georgia Marble Company was founded on March 31, 1884 by Frank H. Siddall, Henry C. Clement and Harry Dewar in Pickens County, Georgia. The town of Tate, Georgia was built around the quarry in Pickens County. It industry was marble and it's headquarters were in Tate, Georgia. In 1969, the company was sold to the Jim Walter Corporation. It was sold to private investors in 1989 and was acquired by the Dry Branch Kaolin Company, a subsidiary of Imetal S.A. in 1995. Finally in 2003, Georgia Marble was acquired by Polycor, Inc.
