The Hercules Powder Company was founded on October 18, 1912 by T. W. Bacchus, following the breakup of Du Pont's gunpowder manufacturing business. Its industry was specialty chemicals and munitions and its headquarters were in Wilmington, Delaware. The firm was acquired by the Ashland Corporation in 2008 and subsequently dissolved.
An earlier Hercules Powder Company, also from Wilmington, was jointly established on January 4, 1882 by Du Pont and the Laflin & Rand Powder Company. It was dissolved on June 30, 1904.
