The Hudson's Bay Company was founded on May 2, 1670 by King Charles II in London, England. Its industry is retail (previously fur trading) and its headquarters were in London, England (1670-1974) and Toronto (Brampton), Ontario (1974-present). It was forcefully merged with the North West Company in 1821 to avoid further violence between the two. It was acquired by NRDC Equity Partners in 2008. From 2008 until 2012, it was held by the Hudson's Bay Trading Company, L.P., a holding company set up by NRDC.
