The International Paper Company was founded on January 31, 1898 by William A. Russell and Hugh J. Chisholm in New York City, New York following a consolidation of 17 pulp and paper mills. Its industry is paper products and its headquarters were in New York City, New York (1898-2001), Stamford, Connecticut (2001-2005) and Memphis, Tennessee (2005-present). Its operational headquarters were moved from New York City to Memphis in 1986.
