The Laureldale Chemical Works were founded in 1845 by Thomas P. Shepard in Providence, Rhode Island. The firm was joined by Edward D. Pearce in 1848 and the firm became known as T. P. Shepard & Company. Its industry was sulphuric acid and its place of operation remained in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1921 the works were acquired by the Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Company.
