The Liquid Carbonic Company was founded on November 1, 1888 by Jacob Baur in Chicago, Illinois.Its industry was soda fountains and its headquarters remained in Chicago, Illinois. In 1957, the company merged with the General Dynamics Corporation. It became a part of the Houston Natural Gas Corporation in 1969, and in 1984, the company was sold to CBI Industries, Inc. CBI was purchased by Praxair, Inc. in 1996 and Liquid Carbonic was integrated into its industrial gas division.
