The Lufkin Rule Company was founded in 1869 (incorporated March 8, 1887) by Edward T. Lufkin in Cleveland, Ohio. Its industry was measurement tools and its headquarters were in Cleveland, Ohio (1869-1890) and Saginaw, Michigan (1890-1967). In 1966, the precision tool business was sold to the Pratt & Whitney Machine Tools Division of Colt Industries, Inc. A year later, the Lufkin company was acquired by Cooper Industries, Inc. Since 2010, the brand has been owned by the Apex Tool Group, LLC.
