Marshall-Wells of Canada, Ltd. was founded on April 24, 1957 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Its industry was hardware and its headquarters remained in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Its American parent company, Marshall-Wells Company, first branched out into Canada in 1901 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1973 it was acquired by Field Stores, Ltd. The Hudson's Bay Company acquired Zellers, Inc. along with Marshall-Wells of Canada from Field Stores in 1978. In 1985, it was sold to Cochrane-Dunlop, Ltd. which went defunct in 1988, ending Marshall-Wells.

In 1912, the Edmonton branch of Marshall-Wells incorporated as the Marshall-Wells Alberta Company. It renamed itself to Albeco Stores, Ltd. in 1957 but was dissolved in 1960.
