The P. Lorillard Company was founded in 1760 by Pierre A. Lorillard in New York City, New York. Its industry was tobacco and its headquarters were in New York City, New York (1760-1997) and Greensboro, North Carolina (1997-present). It came under control of the American Tobacco Company in 1910, but was spun off a year later following the court-ordered dissolution of that firm. Lorillard was acquired by the Loews Corporation in 1968. It separated from Loews in 2008 and was purchased by Reynolds American, Inc. in 2015.
