
The Peerless Manufacturing Company was founded in 1884 by William L. Breyfogle in Louisville, Kentucky. Its industry was fireplace equipment, gas/coal ranges, and gas heaters and its headquarters remained in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1946, the firm was acquired by G. L. Ohrstrom & Company. In 1950, it merged with the Appliance Manufacturing Corporation. The company was merged into the Dover Corporation in 1955 and operated as a division. The company was purchased by Daniel H. Overmyer in 1977 and the business shut down in 1980, its equipment auctioned off in March.
