The Reece Button Hole Machine Company was founded in 1881 (incorporated 1883) by John Reece in Portland, Maine. Its industry was sewing machines and its headquarters were in Portland, Maine (1881-1889), Boston, Massachusetts (1889-1954), Waltham, Massachusetts (1954-1986) and Gorham, Maine (1986-1991). In 1948, the firm merged with the International Buttonhole Sewing Machine Company. In 1991, the firm merged with AMF Sewn Products, Inc., forming AMF Reece, Inc.
