The Remington Arms Company, Inc. was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington in Ilion, New York. Its industry is firearms and ammunition and its headquarters were in Ilion, New York (1816-1912), Bridgeport, Connecticut (1912-1984), Wilmington, Delaware (1984-1996) and Madison, North Carolina (1996-present).

It sold its typewriter business (started in 1873) to the Standard Typewriter Company in 1886, which later changed its name to Remington Typewriter Company. In 1888 the company was acquired by Marcellus Hartley and the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. It merged with the Union Metallic Cartridge Company in 1912. Remington was acquired by Du Pont in 1933 who sold the company to Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, Inc. in 1993. The firm was sold to Cerberus Capital Management in 2007 who established the Freedom Group as a holding company. It was renamed Remington Outdoor Company in 2015. It filed for bankruptcy in March 2018 but had exited by May 2018.
