The Richards & Conover Hardware Company, commonly known as Rich-Con, was founded on March 4, 1857 (incorporated February 1, 1882) by John F. Richards in Leavenworth, Kansas. Its industry was hardware (later steel distribution) and its headquarters were in Leavenworth, Kansas (1857-1875) and Kansas City, Missouri (1875-2000). In 1958 the company liquidated its hardware business and wholly became a steel distributor. The company shut down operations in 1999 and dissolved on August 28, 2000.
