The Risdon Iron & Locomotive Works, also doing business as Risdon Iron Works, was founded and incorporated on April 30, 1868 by John N. Risdon following the merger of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, Devoe, Dinsmoore & Company and Coffey & Risdon. Its industry involved the construction and repairing of ships and manufacturing of locomotives, gold dredges, rock drills, pumping engines, marine steam engines & boilers, railcar wheels, etc. and its place of operation was in San Francisco, California. In May 1911, the firm was acquired by the United States Steel Corporation and merged its operation with their adjacent shipbuilding yard.
