The Saco Water Power Company was founded on March 24, 1837 by Samuel Batchelder in Biddeford, Maine. Its industry was textile machinery and its headquarters remained in Biddeford, Maine. In 1897, the firm merged with the Pette Machine Works, forming Saco & Pette Machine Shops.
