The Scholl Manufacturing Company, Inc., or Dr. Scholl's, Inc., was founded in 1904 (incorporated April 23, 1907) by William M. Scholl in Chicago, Illinois. Its industry was footwear and orthopedic foot care products and its headquarters were in Chicago, Illinois (1907-1980) and Memphis, Tennessee (1980-1989).
In 1978 the firm was acquired by the Schering-Plough Corporation. It was placed in Schering-Plough's U.S. Footcare Division in 1981. Its overseas operations were merged with European Home Products PLC in 1984, which subsequently changed its name to Scholl plc. In 1989, Schering-Plough consolidated its Schering Laboratories and personal-care units into a new division: Schering-Plough Heathcare Products, Inc. Schering-Plough was sold to Merck & Company in 2009, In 2014, Merck's consumer health care unit including "Dr. Scholl's" was acquired by Bayer AG.
The brand was sold to Yellow Wood Partners, LLC in 2019 who formed the Scholl's Wellness Company to market "Dr. Scholl's" branded products. Scholl's Wellness maintains its corporate offices in Parsippany, New Jersey.
