Stephen F. Whitman & Son, Inc. was founded in 1842 by Stephen F. Whitman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its industry was candy and chocolate and its headquarters have remained in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1962 the firm was acquired by the Pet Milk Company and renamed the Whitman's Chocolates division. In 1993 the business was sold to Russell Stover Chocolates, Inc. who continues to market the "Whitman's" brand.
