The Thatcher Company was founded in 1850 by John M. Thatcher in Newark, New Jersey. Its industry was furnaces, boilers and ranges and its headquarters were in Newark, New Jersey (1850-1946) and Garwood, New Jersey (1946-1968). In 1963, the company was acquired by the Holland Furnace Company, and again by the Crane Company in 1964. It was operated as the Thatcher Furnace Division until shutting down in 1968.
