W. T. Blackwell & Company was founded in 1857 by Robert F. Morris and Wesley Wright in Durham, North Carolina. Its industry was tobacco and its headquarters remained in Durham, North Carolina. It was acquired by the Union Tobacco Company in 1898. A year later, it was acquired by the American Tobacco Company. Eventually, the Blackwell name was dropped, but its Bull Durham tobacco remained in production until 1988.
