The Winton Motor Carriage Company was founded on March 15, 1897 by Alexander Winton in Cleveland, Ohio. Its industry was automobiles and its headquarters remained in Cleveland, Ohio. The company was sold to the General Motors Company in 1930 and reorganized as the Winton Engine Corporation. The division was shut down in 1962 and operations were folded into GM's Electro-Motive division.
