The Wood Conversion Company was founded on January 31, 1921 in Cloquet, Minnesota as a division of Weyerhaeuser Forest Products, Inc. Its industry is acoustic building materials and its headquarters were in Cloquet, Minnesota (1921-1927) and St. Paul, Minnesota (1927-1986), Ladysmith, Wisconsin (1986-2018) and Toledo (Maumee), Ohio (2018-present).
In 1985 the company was acquired by and merged into the Cardiff Equities Corporation, subsidiary of the Leucadia National Corporation of New York. Its plants in Cloquet and Red Wing were sold to the USG Acoustical Products Company and its plastics division was spun off as Conwed Plastics, Inc. In 2000 it was acquired by Owens Corning. It was brought back to independent ownership in 2018 and operations were moved to Maumee, Ohio following the closure of the Ladysmith plant in Wisconsin.
